Sundyne’s HMD Kontro Launches Complete Fluid Containment Solution for Hydrofluoric Acid Process Units

HMD Kontro’s latest Magnetic Drive Sealless Pump Solution Offers Safe Transfer of Hydrofluoric Acid During the Alkylation Processces Eastbourne, East Sussex UK, November 4, 2021 – Specialist in magnetic drive sealless pumps HMD Kontro, has introduced a new pump option specifically designed for use in hydrofluoric acid (HF) alkylation. Developed in collaboration with HF Unit Operators and working closely with UOP (Honeywell), the leading licensor of HF alkylation technology, the sealless pump features a casing manufactured from C22/C276. HF alkylation combines olefins (primarily a mixture of propylene and butylene) with isobutene in the presence of a hydrofluoric acid catalyst.  The...

Sundyne’s HMD Kontro Introduces New Resources to Help Specifiers Understand Magnetic Drive Sealless Pump Technology

HMD Kontro’s “Think Sealless” Campaign Promotes the Efficiencies, Cost Savings, and Environmental Benefits of Switching from Mechanical Seal Pumps to Sealless Pumps Eastbourne, East Sussex UK, 07 July 2021 – HMD Kontro has stepped up its ‘Think Sealless’ pumps campaign, with the introduction of a dedicated website section and additional learning resources to help build awareness of magnetic drive sealless pumps and assist specifiers less familiar with the technology to determine the best fit for their fluid transfer requirements.  The new “Think Sealless” section on the HMD Kontro website offers a guided learning process for those less familiar with sealless...

How do Diaphragm Compressors Work?

What is a diaphragm compressor? Diaphragm compressors move (and compress) gas using a set of three, flexible diaphragm membranes. Gas enters the compressor’s process head from an external tank or process on its down-stroke. On the up-stroke, the diaphragms flex, reducing the area inside the chamber, pushing the gas out of the compressor (and on to the process/application). The oscillating movement of the diaphragms is driven by a reciprocating piston and crankshaft mechanism. Only the process diaphragm and the compressor’s process head come in contact with the gas. This is important because the diaphragms prevent hydraulic fluid (or oil from...

Hydrogen Fuel Cells: How Do They Work?

What are Hydrogen Fuel Cells? Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity in a similar way that lithium-ion battery cells power electric cars – but Hydrogen fuel cells do not run down or need recharging. Like a battery, a Hydrogen fuel cell consists of two electrodes: a negative electrode (or anode) and a positive electrode (or cathode)—sandwiched around a polymer electrolyte membrane. Process for Hydrogen Fuel Cells Hydrogen (stored in tanks or reformers) is fed using Sundyne PPI compressors to the anode side of the fuel cell, while oxygen (from the air) is fed to the cathode side. On the anode side, a...
