The Sundyne HMD Kontro VapourView® Ultrasonic Monitor is a gas detection system designed to bolster the reliability and through-life capability of Sundyne API-685 Sealless magnetic drive pumps. Purpose built to assist in the prevention of damage to fluid handling systems, this patented ultrasonic system mitigates costly component replacements and downtime that can result from dry running, entrainment or cavitation.

Over the years, we have developed a suite of instruments capable of monitoring the health of a magnetic drive pump in a range of operating conditions.

 

The VapourView gas in liquid detector is a non-intrusive instrument that uses an ultrasonic signal to detect the presence of gas in the process fluid inside the pump. It is important to detect gas within the pumped liquid in order to avoid the risk of damage and dry running.

Early detection of gas within the process liquid is critical to eliminate the risk potential and the patented VapourView uses ultrasonic technology to achieve this.

The VapourView instrument provides vital information to the end-user on the presence of gases in the pumps internal flow regime and forewarns of adverse conditions. Early intervention by system engineers, who can undertake remedial action, will thereby maximize the operating life of plant equipment.

 
How it Works

The presence of gas in a liquid greatly affects the transmission of ultrasound in two ways. For larger bubbles and gas pockets the dissimilarity in acoustic impedance between the gas and surrounding liquid causes scattering of the sound waves. Smaller amounts of gas entrained within the liquid cause attenuation through absorption. By sending an ultrasonic wave through the process liquid and measuring the drop in signal amplitude due to these effects, the presence of gas can be detected.

 

 

The VapourView is powered by an industry standard 24 Vdc supply and returns a 4-20 mA signal suitable for monitoring using a distributed control system (DCS). It features both light emitting diode (LED) and liquid crystal displays (LCD) to provide on-instrument information, on system conditions to Service Personnel in attendance.

 

The VapourView instrument has been performance tested and is compliant with explosive atmosphere and electro-magnetic compatibility requirements.

 

The VapourView is available for use on the following Sundyne Sealless magnetic drive pumps:

- GSP API-610/685 (OH2) sealless magnetic drive pumps 

- GSPV API-610/685 (OH4) vertical inline sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps

- GSPLF (OH2) low flow center line mounted sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps

- LMV-801S vertical inline single stage overhung sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps

- GSA Frame 1 ASME/ANSI B73.3 ISO 2858 sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps

- GSA Frame 2 ASME/ANSI B73.3 ISO 2858 sealless magnetic drive centrifugal pumps

 

The VapourView non-intrusive gas-in-liquid detector can be easily retrofitted into any of the above pumps and will operate at temperatures between -40 and +350 degrees F (-40 and +180 degrees C).
